As long as I can remember, I loved to move. Always twirling and spinning around, my mom signed me up for dance lessons at the age of 4. I fell in love. My childhood and teenage years were devoted to becoming a professional dancer. My junior year of high school I attended North Carolina School of the Arts. This would be the year I decided I better go to college. I began to doubt my abilities and my passion and drive to be a dancer began to die. The mind is so powerful.
I attended Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA. I graduated with a B.A. in Sociology and a minor in dance. After graduating I was still very unsure of what direction to go in with my life. College helped me to discover that I wanted to help people in some way, shape, or form but doing what was the question? Something was missing.
In 1998, I met certified Pilates instructor, Kim Gammino who introduced me to the Pilates Method and taught me my first lesson. Again, I fell in love. After 3 sessions, I decided I wanted to get certified. I received my certification through The Pilates Guild under the supervision of Romana Kryzanowska. I have studied with Master teachers Bob Liekens, Ton Voogt and Michael Fritzke. Over the years I have also taken various workshops from Master Teachers Brooke Siler, Alycea Ungaro, Lolita San Miguel, Ron Fletcher, Brett Howard, and Blossom Crawford.
In 2006, I opened up Pure Pilates Studio LLC. It has been a learning experience on many levels. I feel like I found that missing piece. I feel so fortunate and grateful to love what I do. I am inspired daily by those whom I work with. Teaching the Pilates Method has taught me the power of movement to heal both the body and the mind. I continue to attend workshops and take lessons. It feels like the learning never ends.
In 2013, I was asked to teach pilates at the new all girls high school, Trinity Hall. I was very honored and excited about this new opportunity. I became Certified in the Pilates Youth Association and I am going on my 4th year at the school. I like the challenge of this population and believe in the importance of bringing the Pilates Method into schools. I hope in the future I can help bring this amazing method into more schools in the area.
Toni Mullins
I was introduced to Pilates while living in Europe over 30 years ago. I immediately recognized its value in supporting a healthy life style. Today, Pilates is a pivotal and necessary workout for me to continue with sports and competitive International Latin ballroom dancing.
I trained in Europe, New York and New Jersey, certified through the Power Pilates Studio in New York City, and certified for a comprehension certification with Real Pilates in New York City, and Fair Haven, NJ. My experiences and training in Pilates as well as my experiences as an educational leader and world traveler add to my ability to inspire and challenge you to recognize your strengths and reach your potential.
I’m a life long energetic learner with a determined commitment toward excellence. Join me as we work together with individualized Pilates instruction, whether in group or in private sessions.
