Cheryl Frain - owner
As long as Cheryl can remember, she loved to move. Always twirling and spinning around, her mom signed her up for dance lessons at the age of 4. She fell in love. Her childhood and teenage years were devoted to becoming a professional dancer. Cheryl’s junior year of high school, she attended North Carolina School of the Arts. This would be the year she decided I better go to college. Cheryl began to doubt her abilities, and her passion and drive to be a dancer began to die.
Cheryl attended Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA, where she graduated with a B.A. in Sociology and a minor in dance. After graduating Cheryl was still very unsure of what direction to go in with her life. College helped her to discover that she wanted to help people in some way, shape, or form but doing what was the question? Something was missing.
In 1998, Cheryl met certified Pilates instructor, Kim Gammino who introduced her to the Pilates Method and taught me my first lesson. Again, she fell in love. After 3 sessions, Cheryl decided she wanted to get certified. and she received her certification through The Pilates Guild under the supervision of Romana Kryzanowska. Cheryl has studied with Master teachers Bob Liekens, Ton Voogt and Michael Fritzke, and over the years, she has also taken various workshops from Master Teachers Brooke Siler, Alycea Ungaro, Lolita San Miguel, Ron Fletcher, Brett Howard, and Blossom Crawford.
In 2006, Cheryl opened up Pure Pilates Studio LLC, which she has found to be a learning experience on many levels. She felt like she found that missing piece, and feels so fortunate and grateful to love what she does. Cheryl is inspired daily by those whom she works with. Teaching the Pilates Method has taught her the power of movement to heal both the body and the mind. She continues to attend workshops and take lessons, as she feels like the learning never ends.
In 2013, Cheryl was asked to teach pilates at a local all girls high school, and became Certified in the Pilates Youth Association. She enjoys the challenge of this population and believes in the importance of bringing the Pilates Method into schools.
