FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
What is Pilates?
Pilates is a system of exercises created by its namesake founder, Joseph Hubertus Pilates. Born 1880 in Germany, Joseph Pilates was a sickly child plagued with asthma, rheumatic fever and rickets. Fascinated by muscle function and its connection with well-being, Joseph Pilates created an exercise program that involved the use of the entire body and promoted both flexibility and strength. The entire system focuses on the core postural muscles which help keep the body balanced and which are essential to providing support for the spine. Based on six core principles: Concentration, Control, Centering, Precision, Breath, and Flow of Movement, The Pilates Method of body conditioning has proven effective with injury prevention and recovery, improved alignment, enhanced breathing and circulation, increased strength, flexibility and balance, improved muscle tone, energy and mental concentration.
What makes Pure Pilates Studio unique?
Pure Pilates Studio believes in a systematic, integrative approach to Pilates in a warm, supportive, non-intimidating environment. Our instructors have completed at least 600 hours of classical pilates training and apprenticeship, which has given them the skills needed to communicate their comprehensive knowledge of the Pilates method to you.
How do I begin?
If you are new to Pilates, your first three sessions will be private ones. This will introduce you to the pilates apparatus and allow the instructor to evaluate your strengths and weaknesses. These sessions will also familiarize you with the language, movements, and philosophy of pilates. After you have completed your three sessions, you, with the help of your instructor, can decide whether you want to continue working one on one or move into a partner or group setting. Pure Pilates Studio offers a one time introductory package of 3 private sessions for $180.00. It is REQUIRED that those with no prior pilates experience complete the introductory package before going into any group class.
What should I wear?
Wear clothing that is comfortable to workout in. Avoid oversized clothing that would make it difficult for the instructor to observe your body during the session. You will not wear shoes. Socks are optional.
How many times a week should I do Pilates?
Pilates is most effective when practiced at least 2 or 3 times a week. This can be private sessions, tower classes, mat classes, or even mat exercises that your instructor has taught you to perform independently at home.
